The 8 best concerts coming to Memphis in August: Lainey Wilson, John Fogerty, Juvenile & more

The summer concert season continues, as Memphis and the Mid-South play host to a run of highly anticipated shows throughout August.

A variety of artists — from rock legend John Fogerty to rap great Juvenile, alt-prog outfit Primus to country star Lainey Wilson — will be passing through the area, offering plenty of entertainment options for those hot August nights.

Here are eight great shows you won’t want to miss.

Grammy- and ACM award-winning singer and actress Lainey Wilson brings her “Country’s Cool Again” tour to the BankPlus Amphitheater at Snowden Grove on Aug. 9. The Nashville-based songstress will be joined by fellow Music City artists Ian Munsick and Zach Top as part of the bill at the Southaven venue. Tickets: $34-$124; go to Ticketmaster.com.

One of the legends of American music, John Fogerty, returns to Memphis for an Aug. 9 show at the Radians Amphitheater, part of his current “The Celebration Tour.” The 79-year-old Creedence Clearwater Revival founder and solo star will be playing some of his many hits from across his Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame careers as part of the Memphis Botanic Garden’s annual summer concerts series, Live at the Garden. Juvenile and the 400 Degreez Band: Aug. 15, Minglewood Hall

New Orleans rapper Juvenile will make his way to Memphis for a special show on Aug. 15 at Midtown’s Minglewood Hall. Juvenile has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of his hit song, “Back That Azz Up,” from his breakthrough 1998 album, "400 Degreez." His current North American tour will feature a full live band performing the album as well as his other hits. Tickets: $75-$91; go to Ticketmaster.com.

PJ Morton: Aug. 18, Orpheum

Soul singer, songwriter, performer and one of contemporary music’s most honored artists, PJ Morton will headline a show at Downtown’s Orpheum on Aug. 18. The five-time Grammy winner (and 20-plus-time nominee), will be performing songs off his new album,  "Cape Town to Cairo," a collection of songs that he created in 30 days throughout four countries in Africa — South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt. Primus: Aug. 20, Grind City Amphitheater

Alt-funk-prog-rock titans Primus will make a rare Memphis appearance. The Les Claypool-led combo will be playing on the amphitheater at Grind City Brewing Co. in Uptown on Aug. 20 as part of the band’s summer tour. The show will feature an opening set from critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Fantastic Negrito. Tickets: $69-$118; go to Ticketmaster.com.

Dave Hause: Aug. 22, Hernando’s Hideaway

Philly-rooted singer-songwriter Dave Hause comes to Memphis for a show at the historic Hernando’s Hideaway on Aug. 22. Hause — a veteran of several notable bands including Step Ahead, The Curse and the Loved Ones — has been winning raves since going solo in 2009. Over the course of seven albums — including the recent “Versus” — Hause has proven to be a gifted purveyor of unique blend of folk-punk-roots rock. Sam Hunt: Aug. 23, Radians Amphitheater

The penultimate show of the Live at the Garden summer concert series will see country hitmaker Sam Hunt headline the Radians Amphitheater. Hunt — who kicked off his career in 2014 with a run of chart-topping smashes including “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time” and “House Party” — recently released a new EP, “Locked Up,” and will be playing the Garden concert on Aug. 23. Eclectic roots singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell will headline a ticketed show at the Overton Park Shell. The concert is part of the Shell Yeah! benefit series, which helps fund the venue’s year-round programming. A native of West Virginia Ferrell’s fourth album, “Trail of Flowers,” was released earlier this year, and has won her raves and new fans, and landed her on the Billboard album charts.
