Our 6 Favorite HGTV Series
For those who love interior design or home improvement projects, HGTV is the perfect channel for you. Also known as Home & Garden Television, this network gives viewers the inside scoop on all things home related — from buying and selling to renovating and decorating. Between House Hunters and Fixer Upper, these are some of the best HGTV shows we love to watch — and in some instances have proven the most helpful!
1. Fixer Upper (2013-2018)
If you’ve ever frequented the Home & Garden Television channel, then you probably know all about power couple Chip and Joanna Gaines. Fixer Upper follows the Gaines’ home improvement and design business, Magnolia Homes, in Waco, Texas.
The couple takes homes that are run-down but have potential and they fix them up. Chip handles the construction end, and Joanna is the lead designer. The Gaines’ goal is to take homes that don’t look like much and make them into what they were always meant to be. And so successful was Fixer Upper, that it actually resulted in a reported increase in economic development and tourism in Waco.

2. Property Brothers (2011-2019)
Jonathan and Drew Scott, twin brothers, work together to find fixer-upper homes for couples searching for their dream home. With state-of-the-art computer-generated imagery programs to show their plans for a new home, the brothers take major risks to turn these properties into what their clients envision. At the same time, they also have to convince their clients that buying a fixer-upper is worth the investment — which isn’t always so obvious.

3. House Hunters (1999-Present)
If you often find yourself on Zillow looking at new homes just for the fun of it, then you will definitely enjoy House Hunters. Potential home buyers list their dream requirements for a home and an agent takes them to look at three homes. At the end of each episode, the clients must choose one of them or keep looking on their own.

4. Love It or List It (2008-2023)
Who doesn’t love a little competition? Interior designer Hilary Farr and real estate agent David Visentin compete for the affection of potential homeowners who are looking for a home upgrade. Farr is intent on updating the home they already have and make it into their dream home, while Visentin wants the clients to opt for listing their home as he searches for a brand-new place for them. In the end, the homeowners must decide whether they like Farr’s changes to their current home enough to stay, or if they want to start over entirely.

5. Flip or Flop (2013-2022)
Previously married Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall work together professionally to buy distressed properties — like foreclosures or bank-owned homes — and remodel them into something brand new. However, it’s always possible the project will be a flop, hence series name Flip or Flop. Each episode follows the partners buying a home at an auction through the remodeling process and then waiting to find out if there are any interested parties.
