42-year-old grandma makes history on 'America's Next Top Model'
After a one-year hiatus, Tyra Banks returned to America’s Next Top Model, and this year, they’re doing things differently than in the past. This will be the first season in the show’s long history where there will not be an age limit, which opened the door for Erin, a 42-year-old mother of five and grandmother of 3.
When Erin introduced herself she said, “My name is Erin. I’m this bold, vibrant 42-year-old.”
Tyra said she’d been frozen in time. But there was one thing about Erin that Tyra didn’t like: a wig. Tyra made Erin take off the wig and give it to her. Tyra then put the wig on herself before laying into the modeling industry.
“You know what trips me out about age in the modeling industry is I don’t know why people are so caught up with a number. To me it’s how you look,” Tyra said.
Of course, ANTM was once caught up with a number, and that number was 27. Until this season, 27 years old was the age limit for the show.
After a fashion show and a night spent at the Model House, it was time for the final reveal. Fourteen girls were moving on, and sadly Erin wasn’t one of them … at first. Luckily for Erin, Tyra is quite the prankster. A tearful Erin was all packed up and ready to go when Tyra surprised her at the door and let her know she made it to the next stage of the competition.
America’s Next Top Model airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on VH1.
