2025 Society of Composers and Lyricists Awards nominations led by ‘Emilia Pérez’
Another day, another sign of industry support for Emilia Pérez.
On Wednesday, the Society of Composers and Lyricists announced its 2025 SCL Awards nominations with Netflix’s Spanish-language cartel musical out in front with three nominations.

The ceremony will take place on Feb. 12.
Emilia Pérez composers and songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille earned three nominations as did Atticus Ross, who received two nominations for Challengers and one for the television series Shōgun.
Other highlights: Diane Warren was nominated for The Six Triple Eight, the sixth consecutive year she’s up for an SCL Award. Harry Gregson-Williams and director Ridley Scott will also be honored with the Spirit of Collaboration Award, “which recognizes a composer/director relationship that has created a prodigious body of work.”
The duo has worked together seven times, including this year on Gladiator II.
“Ridley is an open book when it comes to music, and working with him on his films has been a great privilege,” Gregson-Williams, also a nominee this year, said. “He doesn’t point me to a path and expect me to follow it. He allows me the freedom to experiment. He understands the power of music in a movie like few others do, but never speaks to me in musical terms. He’ll talk to me about light and darkness, shade and texture. He might say, could there be a more abrasive texture in this scene? And I’ll interpret that in a musical way.”
“When you score a film, you’re writing a new language that gives the film an added dynamic,” Scott added. “It’s like the final dialogue. Music can make a movie or ruin it, the way an editor can make a mediocre film better or a possibly great film bad.”
Last season, the Spirit of Collaboration Award went to Martin Scorsese for his work with the late Robbie Robertson. Past award recipients include Thomas Newman and Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee, Carter Burwell and the Coen Brothers, and Justin Hurwitz and Damien Chazelle.
In addition to the Gregson-Williams honor, five-time Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal will also be awarded the SCL Jury Award for his score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
As noted by the SCL Awards press release, several 2025 nominees also made the 2025 Oscars shortlists in the Best Score and Best Song categories, including Emilia Pérez, Challengers, and others.
