2024 Grammy nominations champion Americana and country artists, Lainey Wilson, Zach Bryan
Nashville will be well represented at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, as artists from Music City once again dominated the country, Americana, folk and Christian awards — with a pair of artists getting nods in a prestigious all-genre category.
Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Paramore, Kelsea Ballerini, Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell and Old Crow Medicine show were just some of the Nashville favorites whose nominations were announced Friday.
Popular music's run through Nashville's country and roots music are more prevalent than ever, with nods to a blend of critics' favorites and streaming powerhouses.
Nods for Lainey Wilson, Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers in country categories
Recent Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year-winner Lainey Wilson has nominations for Best Country Album for "Bell Bottom Country," plus her duet on Jelly Roll's "Save Me" is nominated for Country Duo/Group Performance.
Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers and Billy Strings' ability to navigate the ever-closing space between Americana, country and roots music has yielded three nods for Bryan and Strings, plus five for Childers at the 2024 Grammy Awards, too.
Bryan's Billboard chart-topping Kacey Musgraves collaboration "I Remember Everything" and Childers' powerful "In Your Love" each have been nominated twice. Strings' work with Dierks Bentley ("High Note") and Willie Nelson ("California Sober") were also recognized with nominations.
First-time Grammy nominations to Jelly Roll, The War and Treaty
For those still unaware of country and rock chart-topper Jelly Roll or multiple-time Americana Music Association award winners The War and Treaty, both will be in the spotlight on Grammy night.
They're featured in the same category alongside Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Noah Kahan and Victoria Monét. Yes, that means the Nashville favorites are both nominated for Best New Artist at the forthcoming Grammy Awards.
Writing Nominations for Jessie Jo Dillon, Shane McAnally
Grammy's sophomore year of its Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical category also continues to highlight Nashville's finest pen maestros. Newly Broadway-beloved writer Shane McAnally joins Jessie Jo Dillon as a nominee for that award alongside Edgar Barrera, Justin Tranter and Theron Thomas.
Brandy Clark, Allison Russell and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's decade-long surges to global renown continue at 2024's Grammy Awards, with the artists receiving six, four and three nominations, respectively.
Clark's 2023-released and self-titled fourth studio album (or her work on Broadway's "Shucked" Best Musical Theater album nominee with Shane McAnally) could finally garner her a long-awaited golden gramophone victory after seven nominations in the past decade.
Notably, her duet for "Dear Insecurity" with previous Grammy winner Brandi Carlile is nominated in both the Americana (Best Americana Performance) and Roots ((Best American Roots Song) categories.
Americana Nominations for Allison Russell, Jason Isbell
Russell's soul-stirring and revelatory recent album "The Returner" has four nominations, as the album itself was nominated for Best Americana Album, while the title song and "Eve Was Black" also garnered nominations.
Aside from his 2023 single "King Of Oklahoma" being a critical favorite, multiple-time Grammy winner Jason Isbell could also be the King of Los Angeles on Feb. 4. Not only is that single nominated for Best Americana Performance, but "Cast Iron Skillet" has a nod for Best American Roots Song. The album "Weathervanes" is up for Best Americana Album.
Christian Music Grammy Nominees include Blessing Offor, Lauren Daigle
In Christian categories, no competition could be tighter than the one for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song, which features Blessing Offor's "Believe" and Lauren Daigle's "Thank God I Do."
These works are in competition with Cody Carnes' "Firm Foundation (He Won't) [Live]," for KING & COUNTRY and Jordin Sparks' "Love Me Like I Am," Lecrae and Tasha Cobbs Leonard's "Your Power" and the mega-collaboration of Maverick City Music, Chandler Moore and Naomi Raine's "God Problems."
Folk Nominations include Dom Flemons, Old Crow Medicine Show
Best Folk Album featuring works by Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright in the same competition against Dom Flemons, The Milk Carton Kids, Nickel Creek and Old Crow Medicine Show perhaps offers the most breadth and scope of age and experience of any Grammy category.
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
