After 20 years, Atlantic Beach restaurant and wine bar Ocean 60 closes
After 20 years, Atlantic Beach restaurant and wine bar Ocean 60 appears to have closed.
Although it has been listed as temporarily closed on Google for weeks and its voicemail states the restaurant is closed for renovations, the restaurant’s website and Facebook page are no longer active and the restaurant is no longer listed in a state database of active restaurant licenses.
Chef Daniel Groshell opened Ocean 60 in February 2002 at the former Nancy’s spot at 60 Ocean Blvd., and expanded a year later with the addition of The Martini Room. After 16 years, he sold the restaurant in 2018.

Known for its unique take on continental cuisine, Ocean 60 featured a menu showcasing local-caught seafood fresh off the boats at Mayport. In a May 2002 review, a Times-Union writer praised the restaurant’s Grilled Scallops & Fettucine Carbonara, Oyster Stew, Tuna Escabeche and Key Lime Crème Brulee.
The closing follows that of several other longtime restaurants in the Jacksonville area, including Avondale’s Barrique Kitchen & Wine Bar and Mandarin’s Wing-It Jax, both within the last week. Earlier this year, downtown’s Olio, European Street’s Southside restaurant and the Westside’s Willard’s Bar-B-Q Junction all closed after extended runs. In the past year at the Beaches, Loop Pizza Grill closed in Neptune Beach after 30 years and Roy’s closed in Jacksonville Beach after 18 years.
