10 Affordable Spring Break Destinations for 2025 That Are Anything But Basic
Ditch the overpriced party spots—these 10 spring break destinations offer sun, adventure, and culture without the sky-high price tag.
Spring break is on the horizon, and if you're like me, you're itching to swap the daily grind for something more adventurous—without draining your bank account. Over the years, I’ve learned that the perfect getaway doesn’t have to be the most expensive or the most obvious. It’s about finding those under-the-radar spots that offer incredible experiences—from world-class skiing at a fraction of the price to dog-friendly beaches and next-level inclusive resorts that deliver on their promises.
These 10 spring break destinations feel luxe without the price tag—so whether you’re after culture, adventure, or just a beach and a frozen drink, there’s something here for you.
1. Aruba
Aruba has been my spring break destination for the last two years, and I’m already planning my return. One of the biggest draws? It’s incredibly dog-friendly, and I always travel with my side-hustling influencer service dog Poppy.
Dogs are welcome on numerous patios at restaurants around the island and Poppy loved the steak at Hadicuari Restaurant, where we dined with paws and feet in the sand facing the sea. Pair that with near-perfect weather year-round (it gets less rain than anywhere else in the Caribbean), pristine beaches, and a laid-back, welcoming vibe, and it’s no wonder I keep coming back.
The affordability factor? Aruba’s consistent weather means it’s never really “peak season.” While flights can fluctuate, accommodation deals are plentiful. The island is also compact, so renting a car isn’t necessary—saving you even more.
Expert Tip: Aruba welcomes dogs, but you’ll need an international health certificate from a USDA-accredited vet within 14 days of travel. Your dog must be microchipped and vaccinated for rabies. After your vet completes the form, they will send it to your regional USDA office for endorsement (allow up to a week). Then, email it to [email protected] in Aruba for final approval. Bring the stamped certificate to the airport for entry.
Where to Stay: Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort—This all-suite hotel is dog-friendly and just steps from Eagle Beach, one of the best in the Caribbean, and offers free breakfast and complimentary happy hour drinks—a rare perk in Aruba. The spacious rooms with kitchenettes make it an affordable luxury pick, especially for families or longer stays.
2. Panama City & Bocas del Toro, Panama
For those craving two destinations in one, Panama is an affordable alternative to Costa Rica—with just as much adventure and far fewer crowds. Start in Panama City, where the Casco Viejo district has historic charm, rooftop bars, and affordable five-star hotels. Spend the afternoon walking along the Amador Causeway and visit the Panama Canal—a surprisingly fascinating experience, even if you aren’t into engineering.
Then, hop a quick domestic flight to Bocas del Toro, where you'll find crystal-clear Caribbean waters, overwater bungalows, and some of Central America’s best snorkeling and surf breaks. Bocas has a laid-back, surf-meets-backpacker vibe, making it perfect for unwinding after a few days of city exploration.
Expert Tip: One of the smartest ways to get here? Fly on Copa Airlines, which offers free stopovers in Panama City—so you can split your trip between the city and the beach without extra costs.
Where to Stay:
Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo—A stunning luxury hotel housed in a restored colonial building along the waterfront. It’s located in the heart of Casco Viejo, making it easy to explore the best bars, cafés, and cultural spots. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is the best in the city.
La Coralina Island House—Nestled between jungle and sea, this eco-luxury retreat in Bocas del Toro combines wellness, adventure, and relaxation. The on-site farm-to-table restaurant and secluded beachfront setting make it an ideal escape.
3. Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Love skiing but don’t love Aspen prices? Glenwood Springs is just an hour from Aspen and offers way more affordable lodging and dining, plus a bonus: epic natural hot springs. You can ski at Sunlight Mountain Resort, a small but uncrowded ski area with runs for all levels and lift tickets as low as $70 during the week ($90 weekends). Or take a short drive to Aspen/Snowmass and ski the same slopes as the celebrities and billionaires—without paying to stay there.
The après-ski highlight? Iron Mountain Hot Springs has 16 geothermal soaking pools inspired by the world's most famous hot springs, from Iceland to Japan. Meanwhile, the historic Glenwood Hot Springs Pool is the largest hot springs pool in the world and a must-visit.
Where to Stay: Hotel Colorado—A historic landmark hosting guests since 1893, with cozy Victorian-era charm and modern comforts.
Expert Tip: Look into the Ski, Swim, Stay package at Sunlight Mountain Resort for savings — it bundles lift tickets and hot spring admission with a stay at either Hotel Colorado or Glenwood Hot Springs Resort into an affordable package. It also offers family discounts.
4. Riviera Nayarit, Mexico
Riviera Nayarit, on Mexico's Pacific coast, is another of my favorite repeat spring break destinations. With 200 miles of pristine coastline, this region offers charming fishing villages, secluded beaches, and lush mountain backdrops. The area is less crowded than nearby Puerto Vallarta, providing a more relaxed atmosphere.
You can also take a day trip to the bohemian surf town of Sayulita, known for its vibrant art scene and lively markets. The Marietas Islands are a short boat ride away for nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for snorkeling, bird watching, and discovering the famous Hidden Beach.
Where to Stay: Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit – I’ve always loved this Mexican all-inclusive resort brand, as it’s renowned for exceptional service, gourmet dining, premium liquor, and spacious suites. I stayed at the Riviera Nayarit property recently and loved the multiple restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, the spa experience, and activities ranging from yoga to tequila tastings. This is a luxury resort that still provides good value, especially if you want to eat and drink at leisure without worrying about the cost.
5. Austin, Texas
Austin is a cultural hot spot known as the Live Music Capital of the World?. Throw in incredible food and year-round outdoor experiences, and you’ve got a lively spring break vacation destination worth writing home about.
During spring break, the city comes alive with festivals, including the renowned South by Southwest (SXSW), which takes place during the second week of March. This festival features a blend of music, film, and interactive media. Even if you don't have tickets to official events, the city buzzes with free shows and pop-up happenings.
Where to Stay: East Austin Hotel—A stylish, budget-friendly pick in trendy East Austin, known for its cool bars, coffee shops, and food trucks. With Scandi-chic rooms, a rooftop bar, and a pool, it’s an affordable stay without sacrificing style.
6. Paso Robles, California
Wine country without the Napa prices? Paso Robles is your answer. Located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, this charming town boasts over 200 wineries, many of which offer affordable tastings. The region's relaxed vibe means you can chat with winemakers and learn about the craft without the crowds.
Beyond wine, Paso Robles offers natural hot springs, olive oil tastings, and a burgeoning craft beer scene. The downtown area has artisan shops, farm-to-table restaurants, and a lively arts scene.
Where to Stay: The Piccolo—A boutique hotel that combines modern luxury with small-town charm. With a rooftop bar overlooking downtown and complimentary bike rentals, it's an ideal base for exploring the area.
7. Edinburgh, Scotland
For a spring break rich in history and culture, Edinburgh offers cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and a vibrant arts scene. For a touch of mystery, walk the Royal Mile, explore the majestic Edinburgh Castle, and delve into the city's underground vaults.
Springtime in Edinburgh means blooming gardens and milder weather, making it perfect for strolling through Princes Street Gardens or hiking up Arthur's Seat for panoramic city views.
Where to Stay: Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel—This hotel, which overlooks one of the city's private garden squares, blends traditional Georgian architecture with modern amenities. Its central location makes it easy to explore Edinburgh's main attractions.
8. Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida
If you're seeking a laid-back beach town without the spring break crowds, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is a charming seaside village with fantastic sunsets. Located just north of Fort Lauderdale on a barrier island, it offers pristine beaches, a walkable downtown, and a renowned coral reef just offshore, making it a snorkeler's paradise.
The town's relaxed atmosphere is complemented by beachfront cafes, local boutiques, and a fishing pier where you can catch your dinner.
Where to Stay: Plunge Beach Resort—an affordable, stylish beachfront hotel with a retro-chic vibe. It’s perfect for those who want a low-key, relaxing stay while still being close to Fort Lauderdale’s nightlife if the mood strikes.
9. Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville might not be the first place you think of for spring break, but the city is buzzing with events, music, and history—especially in 2025, when the Grand Ole Opry is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Live music is a given, but beyond Broadway’s honky-tonks, you’ll find incredible food, trendy rooftop bars, and even outdoor adventures along the Cumberland River.
Hot chicken is a must-try (Prince’s or Hattie B’s?), and the city’s booming arts district is home to murals, boutiques, and whiskey bars worth exploring. For an affordable music experience, head to The Bluebird Cafe, where some of country music’s biggest stars got their start.
Where to Stay: The Russell Nashville—This boutique hotel inside a historic church offers modern amenities and a unique experience. Plus, every stay helps support local homeless outreach programs.
10. Holbox Island, Mexico
Isla Holbox (pronounced “hole-bosh”) is Mexico’s best-kept secret for an off-the-grid beach getaway. Located north of the Yucatán Peninsula, this car-free island has bioluminescent beaches, colorful street art, and a hammock culture that’s impossible to resist. The vibe is laid-back, with dirt roads, beachside taco stands, and flamingos wading in the shallow lagoons. The water here is clear turquoise and calm, and you don’t see as much Sargassum as the Riviera Maya.
The best part? It’s still affordable compared to places like Tulum or Cancun, which have many vacation rentals and small boutique hotels. It is refreshingly void of large resorts.
Where to Stay: Casa Las Tortugas—A boutique eco-hotel right on the beach, known for its bohemian design, sustainable ethos, and wellness-focused amenities like yoga classes and an organic restaurant.
Final Thoughts
Spring break doesn’t have to be overpriced, overcrowded, or cliché. Whether you’re skiing Aspen on a budget, soaking in the bioluminescent waters of Holbox, or indulging in Riviera Nayarit’s next-level all-inclusive dining, there’s an affordable getaway waiting for you.
And if you’re heading to Aruba, keep an eye out for me and Poppy—we’ll be on Eagle Beach, sipping a Balashi beer and soaking up the sun.
