Yes, Girls: Liam Payne Is Single Again

Things between Liam Payne and Sophia Smith weren’t “Perfect.”

The One Direction crooner, 22, and his girlfriend of two years have parted ways, according to multiple reports. So his upcoming hiatus with the group will be even more freewheeling for the newly single star.

Payne hasn’t addressed the split, but seemed forlorn in a recent tweet:

Payne and Smith started dating in 2013, but their relationship actually started as school kids. He had a crush on her at St. Peter’s Collegiate School in Wolverhampton, England. According to 1D lore (so who the heck knows if it’s true), she rejected him 22 times before agreeing to date him. The fact that he had achieved international stardom by the time she finally said yes probably helped.

Payne recently said that he had no plans to marry the model, whose locks rival Kate Middleton’s. “We have talked about marriage, but 22 seems a bit young for us,” he told Attitude magazine in September. “Sophia needs to go off and do what she wants to do. I don’t want her to be one of those stay-at-home girlfriends who doesn’t really do much.”

Now Smith has time to do whatever she wants. Ditto Payne, who is currently touring in Europe with his group, which will release a new album, Made in the A.M., on Nov. 13.

In March, the band will go on a hiatus of at least a year. So that time will include Payne having even more women throwing themselves at him. Ah, the life of a young, famous, and single star.
