How Kim Kardashian Rationalizes Putting Her Kids on TV and Social Media

Can you imagine life without North West being front and center?

As Kim Kardashian and Kanye West prepared for the birth of their first child, who was born in 2013, their plan was to keep her out of the spotlight, with the rapper telling the New York Times, “This is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.” At first, they stuck to their plan, barring Nori from appearing on the show that made Kim’s family famous, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and keeping her image off of social media, but they soon changed their tune.

In a new interview with Billboard, Kim, 35, our favorite sheer outfit wearer, recalled how keeping North off the E! reality show was such a priority that she even kept the tot’s toys out of sight when the cameras were rolling. That was no easy feat, as she shoots the reality show 12 hours a day, five days a week, for 10 months a year. But given how much her family showed on TV, her decision to keep North off camera started to feel absurd.

“I would have to, like, change my clothes because I would have throw-up all over me,” Kim said of shooting when North was blocked from being on the show.

Besides, Kim went on to say that North, 3, and Saint, whose first birthday is in December, were made to deal with a life in the limelight.

“Both times when I was pregnant, I’d literally just pray, ‘I hope my baby can handle this life,’ ” she said. “I believe their souls choose us to be their parents — that they choose this life. That’s my belief.”

These days, North is a regular fixture on mom’s Instagram (Kim has 83.8 million followers) and Snapchat — though she’s had enough of that grandpa filter, thankyouverymuch. She sits front row at Fashion Week, even while having temper tantrums, and attended her first big concert earlier this month. Yes, it was a Yeezy show — at Madison Square Garden. However, the Billboard article noted that she “was alternately captivated by Daddy and focused on her iPad.”

We have seen Saint significantly less — although he’s gotten some exposure on Instagram, Snapchat, and Kim’s app, where the couple shared their first photo of him nearly three months after he was born. Watch him giggle here:

In August at the BlogHer 2016 conference, Kim said that Kanye, who for a time swore off appearing on KUWTK himself, letting their children into the spotlight required give-and-take on the part of both them. Kanye, 39, “is “very private, even though he’s in the business, and I’m very open, so he’s really taught me how to become a little bit more private, and I’ve taught him about how to be a little bit more open,” she said. “It really works for us. So I definitely save that part of my home life and my life with my kids [that] I try to hold on to.”

No interview with a Kardashian is complete without momager Kris Jenner weighing in. She told Billboard that Kimye are devoted parents and they have a rule to never to argue in front of the kids.

Hmm… We wonder if Kris collects 10 percent from each of her grandkids, too.
