The man suspected of masterminding the robbery of Kim Kardashian West in Paris told police that the reality star’s ubiquitous presence on social media made her an easy target, according to a transcript of the police recordings published by the French newspaper Le Monde.

“Everything was given online, the jewelry was shown on the Internet, along with the fact that she didn’t wear fake jewelry,” Aomar Ait Khedache, the 60-year-old man nicknamed “Old Omar,” said in French. “That there was no fake jewelry, the times she was coming to France, all you had to do was look on the Internet to find out everything, absolutely everything.”

Carrying out the Oct. 2 robbery, he said, was easy, too.

“It wasn’t a big armed robbery. All we needed to do was neutralize the security guard and get access to the room,” Khedache said. “Right away, I was tempted. It was a simple deal. It wasn’t a violent thing. It wasn’t a big robbery.”

Khedache — who was among 10 people charged in the incident earlier this month — also revealed that the robbers originally wanted to carry out their plan on one of Kardashian’s previous trips to Paris. However, he claimed that a Kardashian source said the reality star was to be surrounded by people the entire time.

Kardashian’s assailants eventually did strike while she was staying at the No Address Hotel during Paris Fashion Week. They managed to get into Kardashian’s room and steal $11 million in jewelry, including a $4 million ring Kardashian flashed on social media in the days before the incident.

Khedache revealed to police that the massive ring was given to someone to keep, because it’s so recognizable. The rest of the jewelry that was taken was melted into bars.

After the robbery, Kardashian beefed up her security team and scaled down her social media presence. She took a few months off and began posting more family-centric photos. But just last week, she returned to her habit of sharing photos of her luxurious life.
