Your Mascara Questions Answered
Hi Bobbi,
I have monolids and my eyelashes simply won’t lift. I’ve tried everything from buying really expensive mascara, buying an expensive eyelash curler, warming up my curler, etc. I don’t even put on mascara anymore because it always gets on my lower lids and the mess is not worth the barely noticeable difference in my lashes. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Juliana
Dear Juliana,
First, you can address the issue of the mascara getting on your lower lids by dusting powder on top of your concealer so your mascara won’t transfer.
Apply a few coats of very black mascara and let it get almost completely dry. Gently bend the lashes from underneath with your finger and hold in a curl to shape and lift. That’s the best, and easiest way to curl your lashes.

Dear Bobbi,
How can I make my eyelashes thick and full?
Best,
Liz L.
Dear Liz,
Sometimes one type of mascara isn’t enough. Try layering a couple of coats of two different formulas to make lashes look fuller. Another trick is to add a smudgy liner that will enhance your whole eye. I personally have found that diet and vitamins also help—I’ve had some great results from taking Biotin!

Dear Bobbi,
Although my lashes aren’t super long, when I blink they touch below my eyes. I always end up with mascara under my eyes after a few hours of wearing it, sometimes even before I get to the office. I have tried changing concealers and using finishing powder under my eyes—not a great look on a 48 year old! I’ve switched to waterproof mascara, added an eye shadow base, and even tried mascara primer…nothing seems to help. What can I do?
Yours truly,

Dear Jennifer,
Sounds like you need to curl your lashes,! You can curl them with a eyelash curler before you apply mascara. Or after you’ve applied mascara, try gently bending your lashes from underneath with your finger and hold in a curl to shape and lift. As far as mascara, you can try using a thickening version rather than a lengthening version. Or just using less—maybe one coat is all you need.
