Reese Witherspoon’s Glam ‘Wild’ Red Carpet Look

Reese Witherspoon stunned at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday night. She was promoting her new film “Wild,” based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed. While her snake print Stella McCartney gown certainly epitomized the movie’s title, Witherspoon’s makeup was ultra glam. The actress has gained lots of attention for going makeup-free on screen for this role, so perhaps it’s no surprise she went in the opposite direction for a very sophisticated, full-coverage look on the red carpet.

To recreate this polished face, start with a liquid foundation like Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup with Sunscreen ($49). Next cover up any redness around the eye area with concealer. Next, apply a bronzy shadow to the lids. Look for a shade with a little red in it, which is becoming really popular. Use a little ivory shadow under the brow bone and a light silvery gray shadow on the inner corner of the lower lid to highlight. You can get all these shades in the Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in Tisse Mademoiselle ($61). The focus of this eye is on the outer corners, so use a soft black pencil and shadow to thicken up the lash line there, smudging the lines and making the ends touch at the outer corners.
If Witherspoon is wearing false lashes, they’re more natural-looking individual ones. You can achieve a similar fullness by applying four coats of mascara, layering two different formulas—a thickening one like Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Washable Mascara ($6) and a lengthening one like Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara ($9). With a bold eye, you want to define your brows in a soft way, using a powder product one shade lighter than your natural brow color.

For cheeks, just use a warm colored bronzer to contour and skip the blush. Finally, you’ll need a glossy, pinky red lip color. Try Lancome L’Absolu Rouge in Rose Lancome ($30). Line with a matching pencil first, and add a little clear gloss on top for extra sheen.
Witherspoon’s hair is simple yet polished, so make sure you start with freshly washed hair. Apply a nickel-sized amount of a heat-activated product like Bumble and bumble Straight Blow Dry ($14), using a large round brush to lightly curl the ends outwards. Make sure your part is off to one side, over the center your eye, and once everything is in place mist with a lightweight hairspray like Garnier Fructis Style Anti-Humidity Hairsrpay Flexible Control ($4).
