I Put On 100 Layers of Foundation and Here's What Happened
A few weeks ago, I spent a grueling hour and sixteen minutes applying 100 layers of Kylie Jenner Lip Kits to my poor, poor lips in honor of the viral 100 Layer Challenge videos that are currently taking over YouTube. Even though it was a somewhat traumatic experience for me, the internet loved it. Viewers were screaming for me to put 100 layers of something else on my body, so in the name of the idiotic Internet trends, I grabbed a bottle of foundation and drowned my pores in flesh-colored goo.
Here's what happened every step of the way.
Before
Let me just preface this by saying that I don't wear foundation, I don't wear powder, and I don't wear blush. The only time you'll see me in a full face is when I'm going out dancing with my girls, or on a special date with my fiancé (like an anniversary or birthday dinner, I'm not about to do my face for some Olive Garden Alfredo).
On a normal day, I'm rocking mascara, brow pencil, and if I'm feeling un-lazy, eyeliner, lipstick, and my Naked Basics eyeshadow. I feel too done-up when I wear face makeup, and while I was #blessed with problem-free skin, I have a large fear that putting makeup on my face will make me break out.
All my beliefs are about to be tested.
10 Layers
This isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I used Makeup Forever Water Blend Face & Body Foundation and applied it with Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Because the foundation is water-based, the formula is super lightweight. Even after 10 layers I could barely feel it on my face.
20 Layers
My skin is currently burning with the fire of a thousand setting suns. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but it's definitely not a comfortable sensation. I'm either allergic to this product, or my face is getting very irritated from having tiny bristles rubbed over it 30 times.
31 Layers
I forgot to take a selfie at exactly 30 layers, so here's 31.
40 Layers
After 40 layers, you can start to see the makeup line under my chin. It's easiest to see just how much makeup is really on my face when you look at that dark line.
50 Layers
I'm growing concerned for the well-being of my eyebrows. I really don't want to go through the rest of this work day brow-less.
60 Layers
My face really burns. I'm starting to get worried that when I take all of this off my skin is going to be covered in welts.
70 Layers
I'm still surprised at how little I can feel the makeup on my face. The 80% water blend is really working for me.
81 Layers
I forgot to take a selfie at 80 again. I'm glad I decided not to do my eyelids, because the foundation is all caked in my eyebrows, which is not something I'd like to happen near my eyes.
90 Layers
This is getting pretty gross. I've been trying to avoid getting makeup in my mouth, so I'm beginning to resemble a clown. However, I was not as successful at keeping foundation out of my nose.
100 Layers
Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. The final last 30 layers or so have not been pleasant. I can feel the layers weighing on my face and I can't stop picturing how clogged my sad little pores are right now.
Taking It All Off
Whenever I wear foundation, I look forward to the moment I get to scrub it all off my face and finally let my skin breathe, so this was an epic moment for me. All the viewers wanted me to only clean half of my face at first, so here's what that looked like:
I only used three Olay Makeup Remover Wet Cloths to get it all off, but it seemed like the foundation just kept coming. I used the last wipe just to be safe, not expecting it to pick up anything, but it was very tan by the time I was done with it. Tune in at 43:56 to see the entire removal process.
Final Thoughts
Turns out, I wasn't allergic to the foundation. My skin calmed down after I took off all 100 layers, and three days later, my face feels normal. Thankfully, I didn't get any breakouts from this experiment, but that might be because I promptly scrubbed my face when I got home and did a face mask, then put on a very hydrating night cream.
