Mary-Kate Olsen’s Pigtails Are Very Michelle Tanner
With Fuller House, it became clear Michelle Tanner would never return to her San Francisco abode again. Hopes crushed, fans accepted this and continued to look to the Olsen twins as the fashion mavens (not actresses) they are today. Until Wednesday night.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended the New York Knicks-Brooklyn Nets game at Madison Square Garden, and Mary-Kate was looking a lot like her child-star alter ego. OK, maybe that’s a stretch. But she was wearing pigtails, a look the youngest Tanner sister rocked a lot. Of course, Mary-Kate’s were braided, and while Tanner’s were as well from time to time, she was more of a loose-curly-pigtail type of gal. Still, looking at Mary-Kate’s smiling makeup-free face framed by carefree braids is definitely reminiscent of the innocent days of “You got it, dude,” ice cream, and pouty faces.
Was this a sign that maybe, just maybe, Mary-Kate would revisit her younger years on a TV set? Probably not, since it isn’t the first time she has done braided pigtails. You may remember the Met Gala 2015, at which she rocked braided pigtails, a look she clearly returns to often.
“On Saturday, the girls texted me pictures of what they were wearing,” the Olsen twins’ hairstylist, Mark Townsend, told Harper’s Bazaar in 2015. “When I work with them, I defer to their impeccable sense of style. I just asked, ‘What are you thinking?'” Apparently, Mary-Kate wrote back one word: “Braids.”
Mary-Kate’s laid-back hair look for the basketball game was paired with a fluffy camel-color coat. She cozied up to her husband, Olivier Sarkozy, while her sister sat across the aisle in all black, cuddled up to Richard Sachs, her supposed new beau.
