Kylie Jenner Dishes on Why She Lied About Her Lip Injections
When Kylie Jenner turned 16, she celebrated one of her first big birthday milestones with her face splashed across the covers of every magazine in the country, looking decidedly different to boot.
Her hair was still a chocolate brown color, she was on the promotional trail for her reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and she was then probably the least-known member of the famous clan. However, people noticed that her lips had ballooned overnight, and suddenly the eyes of the world were on her, wondering what happened.
Instead of tackling the problem there and then, Jenner denied that she had indulged in lip fillers, even though her smackers were clearly unnaturally full. Now in a tell-all interview with Complex magazine, the 19-year-old budding beauty mogul has revealed that she lied about the fillers because she didn’t want other teens to feel insecure about themselves.
“It has been an insecurity of mine all my life,” Jenner said, speaking of an experience in middle school that broke the camel’s back for her. “This guy I kissed was like, ‘Your lips are really small, but you’re a really good kisser. I didn’t think you were gonna be good at kissing.’” Jenner continued, “It was so rude. From then on, I just felt like I saw guys staring at my lips. I felt like no one wanted to kiss me.”
At the time, Jenner claimed her trout pout was achieved simply by overdrawing her lips, but when the Kylie Lip Challenge took over social media and fans were putting themselves in harm’s way trying to plump their lips, she felt the need to speak up.
“I didn’t want to be a bad influence. I didn’t want people to think you had to get your lips done to feel good about yourself,” she said. “But they thought it was crazier that I was lying about it because it was so obvious. I wish I had just been honest and upfront.” The teenager now says that she “went too far” with the filler and has since toned it down.
“When you first get them done, you’re like, ‘Oh, it could be a little bit bigger on that side.’ I’d go back and be like, ‘They went down’ and think they could be bigger. But I went too far. It was very painful,” she said.
