"Many women associate a smoky eye with black shadow," says Wilson, "but smoky is actually a shape, not a color." Think of it as a halo of shadow that be any shade combo you wish. How-to: Start from the top and work downward, advises Wilson, to prevent using too much of the darkest color. Highlight your brow bone with the palest hue in your palette. Add the medium color in your creases (this acts as a barrier to keep the darkest shade from going too high), then blend the darkest shadow on your lids. Diffuse it outward. "You don’t want to see any lines," he says. Finish by adding as much or as little liner as you like.
