6 Eyebrow-Raising Beauty Treatments Gwyneth Paltrow Swears By
The latest? Getting stung by bees. (Photo: Getty Images)
You’ve got to hand it to her: Gwyneth Paltrow is seriously ballsy when it comes to beauty treatments.
“I’m always the guinea pig to try everything,” she says in a new interview with the New York Times. “I’ve got to try them all.”

The movie star’s latest admission takes the cake, though. Gwyneth, who recently released her own line of products called Goop (our beauty editor loves the Enriching Facial Oil, $110, shop.goop.com.), tells the New York Times she’s willingly been stung by bees in the name of beauty. “It’s a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy,” she says. “People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It’s actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it’s painful.” Yep, it certainly would be.
But that’s all par for the course with Paltrow. Here are some of the other wild treatments that she’s copped to over the years:
Vaginal Steaming
Last year, Gwyneth opened up about the treat that is getting your vagina steamed. In an article on her website, Goop, she described the treatment offered at Tikkun Holistic Spa, a high-end Santa Monica retreat: “The real golden ticket here is the Mugworth V-Steam: You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al,” she wrote. Gwyneth called it an “energetic release” that “balances female hormone levels.” (For the record, here’s why you should stay away from it.)

Oil Pulling
It’s definitely time-consuming, but Gwyneth says that she’s a fan of the practice, which involves swishing sesame or coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes. “It’s really weird,” she tells People.com. “Apparently it really pulls toxins out of your skin. It’s amazing.”
Dry Brushing
Gwyneth extolled the benefits of dry brushing to Redbook earlier this year. “It’s an amazing way to exfoliate your body,” she says. “You take the dry brush and, starting at your feet and working up, sweep it all over your body in light, firm strokes, always brushing toward your heart. It’s fantastic for circulation and it helps smooth cellulite. I do it every night before I get in the bath.”
Synthetic Snake Venom Cream
Yup, the actress has even been spotted buying a synthetic snake venom-based cream that costs a whopping $124 for one ounce. This anti-aging ointment is supposed to act like topical Botox, smoothing out wrinkles and relaxing facial muscles.

Cupping
Gwyneth’s been known to sport the telltale red marks of cupping on her back, and once wrote a piece for Goop titled “The Healing Power of Cupping.” The Eastern practice, which involves attaching cups to a person’s body using negative pressure through heat, is said to detox the body and help with circulation and back pain. Unfortunately, it usually comes with a side of intense-looking circular splotches on your back.
Like we said, ballsy.
