Yahoo Autos Everything You Need to Know about the 2020 Chevy Corvette C8's Colors, Trims, Options, and Features
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 will be available in 12 colors and with six different interior schemes.
Three trim levels will be offered on the C8: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. Three suspension setups are available, too, with the top FE4 coming with the Z51 Performance package and magnetorheological dampers.
Features including a heated steering wheel, memory seats, and wireless device charging are new to the Corvette.
Given the extreme secrecy leading up to the July 18 reveal of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8, it wouldn't have been surprising if Chevy had just showed the car, giving few to no details. But that's far from the case. We know almost everything about the mid-engined Vette, as performance numbers, full specs, design details, and more have all been released by Chevy.
We won't get into the weeds here with all of the technical info and performance features found on the C8—we have a bunch of other stories for that—so this is a deep dive into everything else that's relevant to you if you're looking to buy the C8, such as trim levels, features, and colors.
The Outside
So far, the C8 has only been shown in red, but 12 paint colors will be offered. Arctic White, Black, Blade Silver, Ceramic Matrix Gray, Elkhart Lake Blue, Long Beach Red, Sebring Orange, Shadow Gray, and Torch Red are all existing colors that are carried over from the C7. The three new colors are Accelerate Yellow, Rapid Blue, and Zeus Bronze, the last of which is pictured at the top of this story. A set of dual top stripes can be had in Midnight black, Sterling Silver, or Carbon Flash; dual hashmark stripes on the front fenders can also be had in Carbon Flash/Edge Red, Edge Red/Carbon Flash, and Midnight Silver/Carbon Flash.
There will be two wheel designs at launch, each with three finishes, for six options in total. The front wheels are 19 inches, while the rears are 20s, and the standard tires will be all-seasons. In what might be a shocking move to Corvette fanatics, chrome wheels won't be an option. Four brake caliper colors are available: Black, Bright Red, a darker Edge Red, and Yellow.
When you opt for the Z51 package—more on that later—you get a rear spoiler and a new front splitter, both of which increase downforce. An even bigger rear wing is available as an option, as is a ground-effects kit that adds the wing, a larger front splitter, and aggressive side skirts in either Carbon Flash, a dark grey, or exposed carbon.
As standard, the side scoops and front air intake slats will be painted Carbon Flash. But buyers will be able to choose from multiple packages that apply a body-color, carbon-fiber, or lighter Shadow Gray finish to those pieces as well as the rear spoiler, side skirts, and a few other bits. Separately, the side mirrors and the central grille piece can be finished in Carbon Flash or carbon fiber, and the car's exterior badging is available in chrome or in Carbon Flash.
The removable targa roof is available in a standard painted finish, in exposed carbon fiber, or with a large transparent central panel. For even more flair, the engine cover is available in multiple finishes. It's painted black as standard, but Red and Silver are options. An Engine Appearance package adds more carbon-fiber trim to the engine bay as well as LED lights that illuminate the powertrain.
The Inside
For the futuristic interior, there are six color schemes: Adrenaline Red, Jet Black, Natural or Natural Dipped, Morello Red, Sky Cool Gray, and Two-Tone Blue. Depending on trim level, the chosen color will either cover the entire interior or be a two-tone look with black as a secondary color. The Jet Black interior has Sky Cool Gray stitching as standard but can be had with Red or Yellow stitching, while other interior colors have color-matched stitching. Additionally, the seatbelts will be available in Black, Blue, Natural, Orange, Torch Red, or Yellow. The funky two-spoke steering wheel can either be wrapped in leather or microsuede.
The C8 has three different seat options, with a new midrange option filling a gap that Chevy saw between the base "touring" seat and the performance bucket seat. The base seats are called GT1 and feature mulan leather; Chevy says they have "a sporty style that emphasizes comfort while providing good support for performance driving situations." The GT1 seats can be had with two-way adjustable lumbar support and wing adjustment as an option. Up one rung on the seat totem pole are the new GT2 seats, which have a "racing-inspired look" and dual-density foam that provides comfort on long trips. The GT2 seats get mulan leather bolsters with a napa leather center insert, carbon-fiber trim, and a seatback painted in Jet Black. They also have the two-way lumbar support and adjustable wings as well as heating and ventilation, and can be had with microsuede upholstery instead of leather.
Finally there are the Competition Sport bucket seats, which were also an option on the C7 and are for the "track-focused driver." They are fully covered with nappa leather and have more aggressive bolsters, carbon-fiber trim in the headrests, and heating and ventilation. Chevy says the Competition seats also have a "durable performance textile" inspired by Kevlar vests as an option.
Chevy says that everything on the interior is wrapped in leather or microsuede or covered by an authentic material, and all of the finishes look much more high-end than what was found on previous Corvettes. The center console, doorsills, and other interior bits can be finished in carbon fiber or aluminum, and the speaker grilles for the optional Bose system are made of stainless steel.
The Trim Levels
The C8 Stingray will be offered in three different trim levels, called 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT, that come with varying levels of equipment. The base 1LT comes with the GT1 seats, keyless entry and push-button start, a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, an eight-inch central touchscreen that uses new infotainment software, a power-adjustable steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and some other convenience features. The 1LT is only available with a black, gray, or red interior.
Stepping up to the 2LT brings you more color options for the interior as well as features including a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats with memory, wireless phone charging, a heated steering wheel, navigation, a rear-camera mirror, an upgraded stereo system, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, the performance data recorder, and additional interior niceties. Finally, the 3LT adds mostly cosmetic interior items and has the most possible color combinations available. It brings the GT2 seats, upper interior trim wrapped in microsuede, and leather-wrapped lower interior trim.
Each of the trim levels will be available with three suspension setups, called FE1, FE3, and FE4, that correspond to the two Z51 Performance packages. FE1 is the base level with the standard suspension. Jumping up to the FE3 brings along the first Z51 pack, which includes an upgraded suspension with traditional passive dampers, as well as slightly different styling bits, larger brakes, summer tires, an electronic limited-slip differential, upgraded cooling, and a performance exhaust system. Finally, the top-end FE4 adds adaptive magnetorheological dampers to the Z51's package.
The New Features
Going back to some of the C8's features that we've already mentioned, the car's new electrical architecture allows for a number of things that weren't possible or never offered before. Among these are a heated steering wheel, memory seats, wireless device charging, Bluetooth pairing via NFC, and a tire-fill warning system—all features never seen on a Corvette before.
The Corvette's available Performance Data Recorder has a higher-resolution camera and a new interface and can record point-to-point courses as well as racetracks. There are two Bose audio systems, with the fancier one using 14 speakers vs. the standard system's 10. The C8 also will have GM's virtual camera mirror as an option, which projects a backup-camera view onto the rearview mirror itself. The camera is mounted at the top of the engine cover on the roof, and Chevy says it will greatly improve rearward visibility. There will even be a specially designed set of fitted luggage as an option.
Even more information on the C8's packaging and options will be released closer to the car's start-of-production date of late 2019. At the reveal of the car, GM president and global product chief Mark Reuss announced that the base Stingray will start under $60,000 (likely before any sort of destination charge).
